LAKE BARRINGTON — An elderly man died in a Tuesday morning structure fire in Lake Barrington.

According to a release from the Wauconda Fire District, crews responded to 612 Shoreline Road in Lake Barrington Shores about 8:50 a.m., and reported seeing smoke coming from a two-story, four-unit town house building.

Kevin Pyne, battalion chief for the Wauconda Fire District, said Unit C of the building was the only unit that was damaged.

“There’s heavy damage in there, but the damage was contained to just that residential unit,” Pyne said.

According to the release, bystanders told firefighters that someone was trapped in the unit that was on fire. Firefighters forcibly entered and removed a man, who was later pronounced dead at Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Barrington.

No other injuries were reported.

Additional departments that responded to the fire included Lake Zurich, Long Grove, Nunda, Countryside, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Fox River Grove, and Round Lake.

The cause remains under investigation by the Wauconda Fire District, the State Fire Marshal and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

“They’ve been at the scene taking pictures and are in the process of doing an investigation,” Pyne said.
