Jewel-Osco parent to cut 800 jobs; 20 in Itasca
Jewel-Osco is cutting 20 positions at its Itasca headquarters as part of a companywide restructuring by parent company Supervalu that will eliminate 800 jobs, the grocer said Tuesday.
Tellabs cutting 530 jobs
Tellabs is cutting 530 jobs in a companywide restructuring, citing “a climate of economic uncertainty” for the Naperville-based telecommunications equipment maker. An unknown number will be cut at Tellabs’ research and development center in Naperville.
Abbott plans to lay off 700 workers
Abbott Laboratories announced plans Wednesday to lay off 700 employees, most of them in the Chicago area.
Report: Illinois teen employment at lowest rate
Teen employment has continued to plummet in Illinois, according to a new report from Northeastern University. The rate dived to 27.5 percent in 2011, the lowest teen employment rate in the 42 years for which data is available. It is down from just under 50 percent in 1999-2000 and from 36 percent in 2007.
Kraft to slash 1,600 jobs but add positions here
The Chicago area is expected to gain jobs from Kraft Foods’ restructuring announced Tuesday. Employees at a Glenview management center will stay in the Chicago area, as well as employees from plants that will close in New York and New Jersey.
