1. “The Complete History of America (Abridged)” will be presented through Feb. 12 at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, 111 W. Campbell St., downtown Arlington Heights. Everything you know about American history is distorted through hilarious sketches, songs and parodies, from the birth of Bob Dole before Christ to the assassination of JFK by Lucy Ricardo. 2. Local author Jim Proebstle will discuss his historical novel, Fatal Incident, from 7-8 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. Focusing on the U.S. Army’s Air Transport command in Alaska during World War II, the book delves into the crash of a C-47 in the Mount McKinley Range. Books will be available for purchase. 3. Callipygian Players will present “British Invasion” at 4 p.m. Jan. 29 as part of the Early Music series at the Byron Colby Barn at Prairie Crossing, 1561 Jones Point Road, Grayslake. Martin Davids, violin, Craig Trompeter, cello, and David Schrader, harpsichord, will perform a concert of music from mostly British composers, including works by Henry Eccles, Purcell and Handel. Lake County Folk Club’s Concert Stage features Dennis Stroughmatt et L’Esprit Créole performing old-style Cajun and African Creole fiddling at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 at Aleks’ Restaurant, 525 Rockland Road, Lake Bluff.
