With all Lake and Cook County precincts reporting, Republican state Rep. David McSweeney retained his 52nd District House seat Tuesday night.

McSweeney tallied 64 percent of the district’s 13,493 votes cast. He controlled both counties, including 61 percent of the Lake County electorate and 67 percent in Cook.

Independent challenger Dee Beaubien garnered 4,868 votes (36 percent).

Both candidates ran on platforms that aimed to put an end to property tax increases, while also promoting pension reform.

“I’m focused on improving the economy in Illinois,” McSweeney added Tuesday. “That’s my mandate.

“The only priority I have is improving the economy and getting the fiscal house in order.”
