Barrington area police blotter for Oct. 30 - Nov. 5, 2012

The following incidents were listed in the official reports of the Barrington area police departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest by police does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

Barrington

DUI

James M. Kunik, 44, of 813 Warwick Lane in Lake Zurich, was arrested Oct. 27 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or over. He also was cited for illegal lane use and driving without insurance after he was pulled over at Route 59 and Hillside Avenue. Kunik was released on bond and assigned a court date of Dec. 11 in Cook County.

Brian Gill Ahern, 22, of 52 South Wynstone Drive in North Barrington, was arrested Nov. 3 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or over, and possession of marijuana. He also was cited for driving on expired registration. The police report states that Ahern was taken into custody near the intersection of Route 14 and Exmoor Avenue. He was released on bond and assigned a court date of Nov. 28 in Cook County.

DRUGS

A 17-year-old male from Carpentersville was arrested Oct. 31 and charged with disorderly conduct for being under the influence of drugs Oct. 31 at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St. He was released and given a court date of Dec. 11 in Cook County.

South Barrington

DUI

Stefanie A. Opasinski, 27, of 304 S. Mitchell Ave. in Arlington Heights, was arrested Nov. 3 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or over, and illegal transportation of alcohol. She also was cited for speeding and driving without insurance. The police report states that an officer stopped Opasinski for speeding as she was traveling eastbound on Route 62 near Penny Road. According to the report, Opasinski failed sobriety tests and the officer found a half-empty bottle of whiskey in the car. She was taken into custody and later released on bond. She was assigned a court date of Dec. 17 in Cook County.

THEFT

Silverware, two iPods and $200 were reported stolen Nov. 2 from a residence on the 100 block of Bridlewood Trail. The complainant told police that he’d been noticing items missing from his home during the last year and suspects it was his cleaning service.

DRUGS

Kristin E. Whittaker, 21, of 429 Waverly Road in Barrington, was arrested Nov. 3 and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The police report states an officer stopped Whittaker as she was traveling northbound on Barrington Road near Tennis Club Drive because the officer noticed the registration on Whittaker’s vehicle was documented for a different vehicle. According to the report, the officer searched the vehicle and found marijuana and three pipes in the glove compartment. Whittaker was taken into custody and later released on bond. She was assigned a court date of Dec. 15 in Cook County.

Barrington Hills

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Property on a patio was damaged Oct. 27 on the 10400 block of River Road. The report states that two no trespassing signs were destroyed and two glass decorative lamps were smashed. Estimated loss was $26.

Political signs were damaged Oct. 31 in a yard on the 100 block of Surrey Lane.
