BARRINGTON — As part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for advanced mobile devices and applications, AT&T recently announced the activation of a new mobile Internet cell site in Barrington that is planned to enhance coverage for area residents.

With the mobile Internet speeds, AT&T said its customers can surf the Web, download files faster, and enjoy the very latest interactive mobile applications. The new site, the company reported, will improve coverage for Barrington residents near the intersection of Barrington and Dundee roads.

“As part of the Barrington community, we’re always looking for new opportunities to provide an enhanced customer experience, and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way AT&T is accomplishing it,” said Paul La Schiazza, president of AT&T Illinois. “As technology transitions to an internet-based ‘smart’ network, we’re building a network in Illinois that’s smarter and better to provide our customers with a superior mobile Internet experience. In addition, with modern state regulations, we could invest more into these new technologies that consumers and businesses are demanding.”

AT&T reported that it operates the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network with nearly 30,000 hotspots in the U.S., and provides access to nearly 225,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to the entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn’t count against customers’ monthly wireless data plans, the company said.
