BARRINGTON — Barrington residents who are taking down their holiday decorations have the option of recycling old and unwanted Christmas lights.
The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) is offering a Holiday Light Recycling Program in which area residents can drop off old lights to be recycled at no cost.
“We have been participating in this program for the last three years and every year we get more and more lights and our residents love it,” said Village Manager Jeff Lawler. Lawler said Barrington’s drop-off facility is located at the Public Works building at 300 N. Raymond Ave. The drop-off bin is outside the main entrance to the building and will be there for 24-hour drop-off through March 5.
“The containers are clearly marked for this purpose, so there should be no confusion,” Lawler said.
A press release from SWANCC states the bins are specifically for string lights and extension cords. Garland, wreaths and other non-recyclables will not be accepted, the press release said.
