Artists are invited to submit applications to exhibit in the 37th annual Art in the Barn, a juried and invitation-only event on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, sponsored by the Auxiliary of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. The event is held on the hospital grounds, 450 W. Route 22, two miles west of Highway 59 in Barrington, Illinois, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fine art is displayed in a rural setting. Categories include acrylic, ceramics, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed media, oil, pastels, photography, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor, and wood. An information packet for artists can be found on the website www.advocatehealth.com/gshp/artinthebarn. Each applicant is required to submit an application for each medium and include a CD containing four digital images of the artist's work and a $20 non-refundable application fee payable to Art in the Barn. Hearts for Homeless Families holds 22nd annual fundraiser, which benefits Catholic Charities Northwest Regional Services and the New Hope Apartments Program, an innovative supportive housing program designed to help end the cycle of homelessness for local families of any denomination. The fundraiser, which is held at the Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills May 21, offers several ways to help. One can purchase tickets $175 to attend; advertise in the event program, or sponsor the fundraiser. Harris Private Bank, the trustee of the Agnes Krueger Trust, today announced the establishment of the annual Agnes Krueger Scholarship Fund. Ms. Krueger, a lifelong resident of Barrington, who was passionate about music and the arts, established the scholarship fund to assist qualified students in their pursuit of a post-high school education in the field of music. Applications reviewed by the Scholarship Board and select recipients will be awarded scholarship in the amount of $5,000 (minimum) in May, 2011. Applications for this year are due by 5 p.m. April 1, 2011. Applicants for the scholarship must provide, in addition to the completed application, the following information and documentation: Proof of residency within District #220; proof of acceptance at, or current registration in, a post-high school institution; a written statement from the applicant confirming their pursuit of a degree in the field of music, or majoring in music; a confirmation from a music teacher or head of the Fine Arts Department should accompany this statement. The Garden club of Inverness is accepting applications for scholarships. Students who live in the areas served by School District 211 and Barrington High School and who major in horticulture or environmental related studies in college are invited to apply. Applicants can be college freshman to seniors or graduate students. Scholarships of $1,000 or more are awarded each year determined by the available funds. Noah's Ark Christian Preschool is now registering for the 2011-2012 school year.
