Music on the Hill presents Ian and Ani
The Presbyterian Church of Barrington Music on the Hill Series will present the international piano and cello duo of Ian Maskin on cello and Ani Gogava on Piano at 7 p.m. Saturday at the church, 6 Brinker Road, Barrington.
Both are recognized as highly accomplished soloists, having performed with major symphony orchestras throughout Europe and America. The duo will present “Spanish Fire-Music of Spanish and Latin American Composers” on Saturday.
Tickets cost $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and free for students and children. Tickets can be ordered at www.pcbarrington.org.
Frozen Zucchini 5K Snowshoe
Adventure Race
Smart Farm is proud to present the 2nd Frozen Zucchini 5K Snowshoe Adventure at 10 a.m. Jan. 29 at Citizens Park in Barrington. This is an opportunity to get out and enjoy the winter while supporting a local charity: Smart Farm.
The course will consist of an open field start to spread the racers out and then narrowing into meandering prairie and wooded trails looping back to the start. To register, log on to www.smartfarms.org.
Barrington adds police officers
At the Jan. 9 Barrington Village Board meeting, two police officers were sworn in. Officers Garrett P. Oberkircher and Christopher V. Tatman were officially sworn in as members of the Barrington Police Department.
Event to highlight healthy living
The Barrington Area Drug Prevention Coalition will host a free Youth Arts Alive event at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Barrington High School auditorium, 616 W. Main St. The program will celebrate teens making healthy choices with local arts organizations that help guide students to responsible and promising futures. Parents of all students are invited to enjoy the various arts programs, reinforcing how important it is to stay involved with their children and to help them choose healthy activities.
Relay For Life kick off event
Relay For Life organizers will host a kick-off celebration at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at 111 Grille, 200 Applebee St., Barrington. Complimentary appetizers, beverages and cupcakes will be served. Free Relay For Life team sign-ups at the event. R.S.V.P. to Sara at (847) 368-1166, ext. 3.
The Wickstrom Family of Wickstrom Auto Group will be the honorary chairpeople. Details of the Duchossois Relay For Life Matching Challenge will be announced. Information will also be shared about the pink fire truck that will be at the Survivor Dinner Reception on June 8.

Open House slated
The Barrington High School Fine Arts Department and Fine Arts Booster Student Board invites current eighth grade students and their families to an Open House in the Barrington High School Fine Arts Department from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Feb. 2 at the high school, 616 W. Main St. Students and their families will have an opportunity to meet the Fine Arts faculty and students, tour visual and performing arts facilities and observe students creating and rehearsing in the studios.
Staff, students and parents will also be available to answer any questions regarding course selection, co-curricular activities and upcoming events.
In addition, the district’s Extended Art Show featuring the work of middle school extended art students will be on display in the Clair E. Smith Art Gallery. The show was coordinated by Julia Beatty of Barrington Middle School-Prairie Campus and Pov Corriveau and Dawn Stanislawski of Barrington Middle School-Station Campus.
Educators achieve National Board
accreditation
Another four Barrington 200 teachers have passed the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards process, making 34 educators in the school district to achieve the accreditation.
The four newly accredited teachers are: Ernest Lane, mathematics teacher at Barrington High School; Karla Cherry, mathematics teacher at Barrington High School; Sharon Krantz, fourth grade teacher at Roslyn Road School; and Georgia Nelson, fourth and fifth grade extended teacher at Hough Street School.
GOP endorses McSweeney and Sauer
The Wauconda Township Republican Organization has announced its endorsement of David McSweeney’s campaign for state representative in the 52nd District.
Republicans from both Cuba Township and Wauconda Township have also endorsed Nick Sauer for Lake County Board, District 17 for the March 20th Illinois Primary Election.

The Cuba Township Republican Committee voted to endorse the county and state candidates who are seeking office in the Illinois primary set for March 20, 2012. Candidates from competitive races were invited to present their case at a meeting held on Jan. 14 at the Barrington Public Library. At the end of the meeting the Precinct Committeemen voted by secret ballot. Only candidates who received two-thirds of the vote of the committeemen in the organization were endorsed.
The group endorsed McSweeney, Sauer, Bryan R. Winter for Lake County State’s Attorney, Keith Brin for Lake County clerk of the circuit court, Bob Bednar for Lake County recorder of deeds and Steve Newton for Lake County coroner.
