Metra train strikes, kills elderly man near Mount Prospect

MOUNT PROSPECT — Trains on Metra’s Union Pacific/Northwest Line trains are running again Wednesday after a train struck and killed a 95-year-old man near northwest suburban Mount Prospect.

Inbound train No. 626 left Barrington at 7:27 a.m. and struck a pedestrian, possibly a bicyclist, in Mount Prospect about 7:50 a.m., Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed a 95-year-old man was struck and killed. His name was not being released as of late Wednesday morning.

Some trains experienced delays of up to two hours after the incident, but trains were on the move again by about 10 a.m., according to Metra’s website.

Metra and Mount Prospect police are investigating.
