Barrington Art Festival set for Saturday, Sunday

BARRINGTON — Barrington is set to kick off the summer season on Memorial Day weekend with its fourth annual Barrington Art Festival. The festival, which will take place at the corner of Cook and Station streets, will feature the work of 130 artists from around the world in mediums including paint, sculpture, jewelry, metal and photography. Some of the artists featured at the festival include Barrington residents Carla Bank, Jennifer Erdman and Beata Krupa. Prosecutors drop charges against former BHS teacher accused of stealing from school

BARRINGTON — The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office informed Barrington School District 220 on Wednesday that county prosecutors have dropped criminal charges against Julie Salk, the former chair of Barrington High School’s Fine Arts Department. Salk, who retired from the district last June, was charged with theft in November for allegedly stealing from the district. The charges were classified as a Class 3 felony. The charge was related to about $5,000 that went missing, according to accounting records from both the school district and the parent-led Fine Arts Booster Club. Kildeer resident visits Rwanda to ‘Stop the Violence’

KILDEER — A Kildeer resident was recently one of 43 women from around the world to travel to Rwanda to learn about gender-based violence, then tasked with bringing the experience home to “Stop the Violence” in their home countries. After a week-long stay in Kigali, Diane Saber returned to Kildeer on May 13 after completing the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts’ (WAGGGS) week-long training program, which was part of a larger advocacy campaign to put an end to the violence that girls face in many regions around the world. Station students brings scholastic bowl championships to Barrington

BARRINGTON — A team of students at Station Middle School recently outshined schools from across the country by winning both the Illinois Scholastic Bowl and the National Academic Quiz Bowl championships. “I’ve never had a team win a state championship let alone a national one,” said Station scholastic bowl coach Jeff Price, who has coached numerous teams from several schools in the area.
