Football: Barrington holds off Conant

THE SKINNY

Barrington (6-1, 2-1 MSL West) shrugged off a slow start at home Friday night, then held on for key a 32-20 division victory that allowed the Broncos to clinch a playoff berth.

TURNING POINT

Ahead by 12 midway through the third quarter, Barrington's defense kept the Cougars out of the end zone on three consecutive plays from the Broncos' 2-yard-line. They did so again a play later, on fourth-and-goal from the 10, forcing a turnover on downs. Instead of cutting the lead to single digits, Conant found itself turned away without points inside Barrington's red zone for the second time.
